Solidarity march to honor the founder and fight against armed violence | Local News
The Buffalo Most Valuable Parents group will hold a solidarity march on Saturday to honor the group’s founder, the late Neal Dobbins, and to raise awareness of federal law they say hinders their fight against gun violence.
At the time of his death on May 26, Dobbins was fighting for the repeal of what is known as the Tiahrt Amendment. Lawyers say this provision of federal law prevents the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives from publicly disclosing a gun tracing database containing important information that would help limit the flow of illegal weapons and draw public attention to unscrupulous arms dealers.
Saturday’s march will begin at 2 p.m. at East Ferry Street and Fillmore Avenue, and will arrive at the bust in Martin Luther King Jr. Park shortly before 3 p.m. After a few brief remarks, the gathering will end with a prayer.
