Role Description

About the role

To provide a professional financial management and accounting service to the school themes/centres for which you are responsible, ensuring that financial management is maintained at the highest level to help the school achieve its strategic objectives. Provide strategic and appropriate management information and recommendations to Theme Directors and Center Heads to enable them to make strategic and forward-looking financial decisions with respect to the follow-up, growth and development of their Themes.

You will support the Finance Manager and the Integrated Finance team to become a recognized center of excellence for budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting within SWEE and act as the point of contact for financial matters.

About you

You will be a CCAB qualified accountant with work experience in a large, complex organization and/or higher education institution. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the finances of the school crafting theme. This includes producing budgets and forecasts, tracking variance analysis, and providing financial advice to the Theme Director and School Chief Financial Officer.

The role would suit a hardworking, motivated, proactive and reliable individual who can meet strict deadlines and take responsibility for their own workload. Good interpersonal skills are essential as there will be frequent contact with customers and University staff.

You must be able to develop a thorough understanding of the school’s requirements for analysis, information and professional financial support in order to provide an extremely high level of professional financial support. This will include a suite of financial reports tailored to the School’s needs that are timely, highly professional, well presented and accurate. It will also include ad hoc reports on the same standard and general financial leadership, partnership and advice. In the role, you are expected to engage and associate with the school’s academic community and be an indispensable partner to budget holders and principal investigators.

Experience working with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word is essential as the work is primarily computer based. Previous experience with computerized accounting systems is also essential, significant experience with the UNIT4 Business World system (Agresso) would be desirable.
