Parents invited to attend school management committee meeting today

A meeting to educate parents on the importance of School Management Committees (SMCs) that focus on ensuring quality education and school development will be held at 1,281 public schools in the district on Sunday.

The Department of School Education recently launched the “Nam Palli Nam Perumai” (Our School, Our Pride) initiative which aims to restructure SMCs with the participation of parents and the community. The SMC will have 20 members, one parent of whom will be in charge. The committee will focus on increasing student enrolment, ensuring regular student attendance, improving school infrastructure and creating an environment conducive to learning.

In a statement, the director of education, Mr. Ramakrishnan, said that the Children’s Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009, mandated the SMC in all public schools to develop them and ensure quality education. quality. Newly elected members will be trained to ensure the committee functions effectively, he added.

On Sunday, meetings will be held in all 1,281 public schools comprising all primary, middle, high and high schools and parents are requested to attend without fail from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., he added.

The CEO said the meeting would educate parents on the importance of the SMC, the contribution of the committee to the development of the school and the election of the president and other members of the SMC.

New SMCs would be trained in all schools and the committee would meet the first week of April, he said.
