Montrose and Grand Junction baseball split from SWL series

Eighth-ranked Montrose faced league foe Grand Junction on Thursday and won 6-3. On Friday, the teams came together and Grand Junction came away with a 12-10 win to split the conference series.

“We struggled to make routine plays,” Montrose head coach Landon Wareham said.

In Friday’s game, the Montrose were leading 2-0 after the first inning before the Tigers tied the game in the top of the second and the game continued to come and go.

Montrose’s Jackson Barnett singled and scored on a Jaxon Kattner double. Kattner scored on a Luke Hutto single.

After Grand Junction’s Drew Woytek doubled up, Noah Martinez hit a two-run home run.

“I think our approach to home plate was fantastic and I love how my two pitchers battled it out on the mound,” Grand Junction head coach Will Dixon said.

Will Applegate had a two-run home run and four RBIs. Landon Scarbrough hit a solo home run with a total of four RBIs. Noah Martinez homered two runs and four RBIs.

Brett Woytek retired seven batters to the mound.

David Dominquez had a triple, a home run and four RBIs.

Gage Wareham had a single, a triple and struck out three batters. Titus Weese struck out three batters.
