KRISHNAGIRI: The SMC meeting in a public school in a tribal hamlet in the district did not take place because the principal was busy with his engagement. About 25 Irula families live in Sivapuram, a hamlet in the panchayat of Kottayur and the students attend the Panchayat Union Primary School.

The village is located 125 km from Krishnagiri. The school has only one teacher, Nagendiran, who is also the headmaster. On Sunday, he did not show up for school. Residents said they were unaware of the SMC meeting and that the school was not open.

Gowramma, who works at the school, said the headmaster was getting engaged and that’s why he didn’t come to the school. Thalli Block education manager Paul Raj said he was unaware of the issue and that HM had not asked for permission to be absent.

Denkanikottai district education officer Anbalagan said the SM’s one-day salary would be deducted.
Meanwhile, residents of Beernapalli village in the panchayat brought several allegations to Her Majesty of Sivaraman Primary School of the Panchayat Union. They alleged that he misbehaved with women earlier. They also said he didn’t tell them about Sunday’s meeting.

Raghunathan, the SM of Bilikal Panchayat Union Primary School in Urigam panchayat, led the meeting between 9am and 10.30am and left the school early. District Education Officer Anbalagan and District Coordinator SSA Sardar assured that they would look into the issues.
