Kannapolis man faces number of drug and gun charges – Salisbury Post
SALISBURY – A Kannapolis man faces a slew of drug and gun charges after being arrested with at least 25 grams of opioids and a stolen gun.
Michael Antonio Rivers, 48, was charged Thursday by the Kannapolis Police Department with trafficking in opium or heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. Rivers was allegedly in possession of opioids, two digital scales containing white powder residue, boxes of sandwich bags and a black marijuana grinder, among other items considered paraphernalia.
In addition, Rivers was charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Possession of a Firearm by a Criminal. Rivers was reportedly in possession of a Smith & Wesson revolver. Rivers was convicted of a felony by Rowan County Superior Court in 1994 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Rivers was also charged with maintaining a vehicle, home or place used to store and sell a controlled substance. The place was all from Mike Sell located at 1905 N. Cannon Blvd. in Kannapolis.
Rivers was posted $ 200,000 bail and was registered at the Rowan County Detention Center.
In other criminal news:
• John Ross Shoaf, 26, of Statesville was charged Friday by the Salisbury Police Department with criminal possession of methamphetamine and simple possession of Schedule IV controlled substances. Shoaf was also charged with criminal possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver methamphetamine by the Statesville Police Department. Shoaf was given a $ 5,000 bond and was registered in the Rowan County Detention Center.
• Keyona Ashlee Holmes, 24, of Spencer was charged by the Salisbury Police Department with felony causing grievous bodily harm for allegedly fracturing a person’s knee.
• Zachary Canup, 35, of Salisbury has been charged by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office with assaulting a woman, communication threats, two counts of child abuse and interfering with the communications of emergency. Canup left bruises and red marks on two children and hit a woman in the face with his fist, according to the arrest report.
• Burton Daniel Lavana, 36, of Salisbury was charged Friday by the Salisbury Police Department with possession of methamphetamine and theft.
