Genealogy? Local libraries can help you build your family tree

VESTAL (WBNG) – Did you know that there are some Southern Tier libraries that can help you build your family tree?

Brian Lee, a digital services librarian with the Four County Library System, says few people are aware of the resources they offer.

Lee says that using databases like Ancestry Library, offered in certain physical locations in the system, you can access things like marriage certificates and other clues that might provide insight.

He mentions that librarians and libraries are more than just books.

“… libraries are the focal point of the community, we have the resources they are ready and available and they are free to the public, so what better way to set them up for that,” he said. he declares.

Lee has organized events in the past where those who had library cards were able to learn from a librarian within the system on how to use those resources for their personal research.

Lee adds that while there are no other events planned at this time, the resources are available to them in any library in the Four County System. All you need is a library card.
